As of current, I do not have a brand I've created. In the past I have made one before for school projects and I have beginner experience running a social media for businesses, and I plan to use that knowledge and the new knowledge I gain to start my branding for my photography business. For a little bit of background the old photography business I ran the social media for was called Students Eye. This was my high school AP photography classes business and as a class collectively made the logo and slogan. I currently have no ideas for my branding but I have a couple starter ideas.
For a start, I don't have my own website but I'd like to make one for my photography portfolio. For the color scheme of the website I would think something super basic especially to make the photos stand out. For example I wouldn't use a textured background for the website as it would make it too busy and draw attention away from the actual photos. Something more preferable is a black background with white accents, such as the font and icons. I prefer the basics as I like the more modern look. Another thing I would want on my website is to separate my portfolio in different categories, like fashion photography, landscapes, events, etc in their own tabs.
The hardest part of trying to create a brand in my opinion is the slogan and logo. When thinking of a logo there are many factors to put into it. I want to stand out from others especially in the photography business. Whenever you think of a photographers branding most of the time the logo is just a camera designed in different ways. I don't have much of a plan for the logo but I know that I don't just want a simple camera as the logo. The same goes for the slogan, most of the time it'll always involve something about "capturing the moment". If someone was checking out my portfolio out of 100 other's I want to stand out cause the logo is always going to be the first thing that pops in your head when you think or a brand. One idea I thought of for the logo is a camera flash with my initials in the middle or whatever I decide to name the brand. When I made my photography account on Instagram I did a similar thing, most people just use their names for their branding but I used photosynths.is as my name back then and rebranded it to spudnutpics just to stand out a little bit more. Though I have ideas for the logo the slogan to me is still something I need to think of.
Even though I have many things I'm not sure of there are a couple thing's I know I do want to do to get my photography out there. First off an easier way of networking is technological business cards. I have a friend whose into making music and he was the one that introduced me to it. He had a business card that you don't actually have to hand to someone, it might not work with all phones but I have an Iphone but his business card just had to be tapped on the back of your phone and it brought up his Linktree. In his Linktree it had his Instagram, his different streaming platforms, etc. In my version I would want it to bring up my website, Instagram, and my contact. I feel like this business card is way more efficient for networking, most people throw cards away but this one opens a tab on your Safari page so it's there until you swipe it away. Another thing I know I want to do is other than the website I want to get my photography back on Instagram. This is obviously the best way to get myself out there and to reach out to other photographers for tips, tricks, and networking.
Starting a brand isn't the hard part but it's more of getting the exposure and maintaining it. I feel like my previous experiences with these type of projects was always keeping it going. I never saw much progression when it came to exposure and it caused me to quit posting or it took away the energy to keep on taking photos. This time I know what to do differently, to keep going no matter how little the following is. Also the more photos I start taking the more of a variety I have to offer hoping that it'll create more business. I want to also get better at being different, whether it's my actual branding or the photos I take.
