Social media today I feel is beneficial for both personal use and business use. When we scroll through our favorite apps whether it be Instagram, TikTok, etc we normally focus on the personal aspect. We look at what our friends are up to, or catch up with old acquaintances and once in awhile stalk that person that we no longer are in contact with. What we don't really pay attention to is that the business aspect of social media infiltrates it's way into our feeds without us really thinking about it. Look at your following lists, it'll mainly consist of your friends from work and school but it'll also consists of cute clothing brands you like, or people who provide us with certain services such as nail techs, artists, or even entertainment. Even though most of us think we use social media as mainly personal use, we are also interacting with the business part of it without even knowing.
The two most biggest platforms of social media in my opinion are Instagram and TikTok. I feel like these two platforms are mainly popular because of the fact you can use them as either personal use and business use. Think about the other types of social media. For example; Youtube has now turned into a place of advertising. Even if you're watching someones vlog or story video you can't go one video without seeing a product thats sponsored. On the opposite spectrum something that I consider is mostly based on personal use is Twitter. The tweets we see from the celebrities we follow or even just our close friends are mostly just unfiltered thoughts, plus the fact of the word count max it's not that common to see someone promoting their business on Twitter. Both of these platforms are still fun to use however they restrict us from the content that we could be viewing whether the content was personal or professional.
Back to Instagram and TikTok the main apps of society today. I think we love them so much due to the fact it stuffs us with as much content as possible. We are able to also be versatile with these apps. On both of the apps you can help promote a project or business you're starting and also due to these apps showing people things based on their interests it'll show your posts to others that have mutual interests as you. Even if you aren't into the whole business industry both TikTok and Instagram is also a place you can post whatever you want. Selfies, mood boards, or a way to brag to your friends about your last vacation. These two platforms you're able to get the best of both worlds.
As of this moment I mainly use social media as a personal use. Posting photos of my friends and I, and seeing what my friends are up to. However I do follow many businesses on Instagram to support them as I love their work or even if I can't afford their services to share it with others to help promote their work. I used to have a photography Instagram to help get my stuff out there. This was also a way to try and scout for more models to photograph but that has been put on hiatus.
I chose to add this photo for this posts since of the heavy talk about personal and business use of social media. I took this photo of my friend in the beginning of 2020. We went around Encinitas and took photos in the city. This photo could be considered as personal use or business use. If she were to post it on her Instagram it could just be to show she looked good or to show off her cute outfit. However, if I were to post this on a photography account it builds to my portfolio.
